You don’t need an attorney to get your plan started! Just a little guidance.

Even before you decide Will or Trust there are things you can do to prepare your plan. Even before you visit an attorney you can start your planning.

First, you need to pick the people you trust to manage your legal, financial, and personal decisions if you can’t. These are the people that will fill the role of agent in your durable power of attorney.

Pick the people you trust to manage your healthcare if you can’t. These are the people that will be your healthcare proxy in a healthcare power of attorney.

If you have children under 18, you should pick the people you would want to finishing raising them if you can’t. You should also who will manage your children’s money. The money manager doesn’t have to be the same as the people raising them.

Next, decide who gets what, when, how, and how much.

Finally, pick who will oversee and distribute your final estate.

When these decisions are made, then you should visit a reputable, knowledgeable attorney to have the plan drawn up. The attorney has the experience to review your decisions, ask the right questions, and create a great plan for you.

You have two choices – estate plan or not. Planning gives certainty, order, and peace of mind. Not planning leads to uncertainty, chaos, and anxiety.
