Are you frozen in the headlights?

Paralysis by analysis is more common than you think.  What I mean is that people do too much research before they decide and take action.

Do you need to understand how a watch works or tell time?

You have insurance, but do you know the inner workings of the insurance industry?  Or do you just know that insurance is there if you need it?

Estate planning is like telling time.  You don’t need to understand all the legal wording and statutes.  That’s what your attorney is for.

You need to protect yourself and your estate.

What you need to know is:

  1. A Will or Trust describes how you want your assets passed on
  2. A Trust prevents probate
  3. A Trust allows you to put rules on the inheritance
  4. A Trust can name somebody to manage assets during your lifetime if you are mentally incapacitated
  5. A Durable Power of Attorney lets somebody else make legal and financial decisions for you if you can’t (or don’t want to).
  6. A Medical Power of Attorney names somebody to make healthcare decisions if you can’t.
  7. A Living Will allows you to have dignity and the final decision.
